Household septic systems do require regular maintenance to work efficiently. This maintenance isn't expensive or complicated but is necessary to avoid costly repairs down the road.
The four key elements to maintaining an efficient septic system are:
Regular septic Inspections and Pump-outs - Every 3-5 years is recommended
Use water efficiently - any water you send down a pipe will end up in your septic system
Properly dispose of waste - ONLY flush waste & toilet paper!
Maintain your Drainfield - Do not park or drive on the drainfield and plant trees an appropriate distance away to avoid roots growing into your septic system.
During inspections we will inspect for leaks and examine the scum and sludge layers in your septic tank. If the sludge is within 12 inches of the outlet or more than 25% of the volume your tank should be pumped.
